CA Photo Annual

08photoannual.jpg

After six years of entry fees, anticipation and eventual disappointment, this year I have finally been accepted into the Communication Arts Photo Annual! The entries are part of the personal project I shot on garbage I collected from the receding shoreline of Lake Lanier. They were featured in the gallery section of the Cooper Carry HERE magazine, and I entered them in the Institutional category listing Iconologic and the HERE magazine. Look for the photo annual this August. Hooray!!!

Atlanta Magazine: May 08

cumberland_island.jpg

I have a spread in this month's issue of Atlanta Magazine. These are some pictures I made with my Lomo on a trip to Cumberland Island four or five years ago. You can take a better look at the pictures here.

Inc. Magazine: May 08

I made a portrait for Inc. Magazine about a month ago. Here's the reproduction in the magazine.

Trinidad and Tobago

I have to post a pretty lengthy entry about my brief trip to T&T. I feel like I made some of the best pictures of my career thus far while I was down there. I spent a good bit of time at Port Lisas. This guy puts shoes on the shipping containers before they are loaded onto a ship.

tt02.jpg

This guy worked at a different dock.

tt03.jpg

Unloading grain...

tt04.jpg

Tying up a big ship.

tt05.jpg

These guys get to work in really cool outfits.

tt06.jpg

They finished up shortly after I got there.

tt07.jpg

Naturally, there were loads of shipping containers at the port.

tt08.jpg

There are so many amazing pictures to be made here. I can hardly wait to return!

tt09.jpg

I went to the top of this crane. It's like 10-12 stories high.

tt10.jpg

I made this picture while I was up there.

tt11.jpg

This was on a ship.

tt12.jpg

Office.

tt13.jpg

The people of Trinidad and Tobago are simply wonderful. We stopped several people on a market street and made their picture. This guy is a security guard.

tt14.jpg

There's a large park in Port of Spain called the Savannah. There were kids practicing relays and guys practicing rugby.

tt15.jpg

Rugby players.

tt16.jpg

They did a lot of push ups.

tt17.jpg

They were working really hard at this.

tt18.jpg

Trinidadians are very cool looking people.

tt19.jpg

This is my driver, Rodger.

tt20.jpg

He plays in a steel orchestra. We stopped by where they practice to eat our lunch.

tt21.jpg

The space can be rented out for events, like dances.

tt23.jpg

He taught me how to play a bit. I'm not very good yet.

tt24.jpg

We then went to the beach and ate bake and shark. That's a sandwich of fried shark.

tt25.jpg

She serves a fine bake and shark.

tt26.jpg

There are assorted condiments you can put on your bake and shark. I put tamarind sauce and pepper sauce. The local beers are Stag and Carib. Stag is "the man's beer." My driver and I had Stags with our bake and shark.

Graphis Photo Annual: Final Jury Selection

graphis1.jpg

Two series of images have made it to the final jury selection for the Graphis Photo Annual. The final judging takes place sometime in the next two months, meaning I won't find out if my images are ultimately going to be in the annual until sometime in July. Even if they aren't selected, I'm excited they have made it this far! The first series is photography of the Atlanta Thrashers (Atlanta's NHL team) I made for Atlanta Magazine. The second is of the series on trash I collected at Lake Lanier.

graphis2.jpg

Hossa was traded this season.

graphis3.jpg

Havelid looks like a storm trooper here.

graphis4.jpg

Holik is a really nice guy, but he can put on a tough face.

graphis5.jpg

The lake stuff has already been accepted into the CA Photo Annual.

graphis6.jpg

Tire...

St. Louis

st_louis1.jpg

I'm in St. Louis this weekend with Melody and Finn. I have a shoot for the Arthritis Foundation Annual Report tomorrow and brought them with me. Iliana is spending the weekend with the grandparents.

st_louis2.jpg

We can see the arch from our hotel window.

st_louis3.jpg

There's this tiny TV in the bathroom.

st_louis4.jpg

The bellboy told me they're looking to renovate soon. I kind of like it the way it is.

Beneath the Arch

finn_arch.jpg

This afternoon, we went to the arch. Tickets to the top were sold out, so we're going to try again in the morning.

Mr. Finn and I make a good team.

Memorial Day Weekend 2008

jon_jo.jpg

Our friends Jon and Joanna came to visit us from New York this weekend. Jon and I grew up together and have been great friends since.

finn_fauxhawk.jpg

We spent Saturday afternoon at the Brew at the Zoo sponsored by Sweetwater Brewing. Sunscreen made for fine hair product, allowing us to shape Finn's first faux-hawk.

iliana_tooth.jpg

Iliana lost a few teeth while I was in Trinidad. Those nubby grown-up teeth have cut through.

iliana_zoo.jpg

We sat and watched the gorillas for while. On Sunday, the grandparents watched the kids while the four of us went to Six Flags. We were able to hit all the rollercoasters, then me and Melody topped everything off by doing the Fearless Freeps. I found a video on YouTube here. We were harnessed to a cable, then dropped from a ten-story height. Melody and I didn't have the breath to scream like the girl in this video.

finn_jo.jpg

It was exciting introducing them to Finn. Jo and Finn became good pals.

jon_greg.jpg

It was great to see them.

Post-K

post_k-1.jpg

Iliana is no longer a kindergartner. Today there was a brief graduation in her classroom. She's ready for first grade.

post_k-2.jpg

But not before she eats her celebratory donuts.

post_k-3.jpg

Mmmmmmm....

post_k-4.jpg

That smile has donut written all over it.

post_k-5.jpg

Finn didn't get a donut, but he was happy anyway.
