Methodologie

sea_baggage.jpg

This year is shaping up to be a very, very busy one. In the past four weeks, I've shot a campaign for Verizon, CDW, gone to D.C. for the Arthritis Foundation and am currently in the middle of a 9 day annual report shoot for Methodologie in Seattle. The client is Macerich, a real estate investment trust. Sunday, we flew to Seattle for a day of shooting on Monday. Above, Morgan is waiting for our bags at SEA.

NYC Sunlight

sun_chase1.jpg

I finished up the Macerich Annual Report shoot in New York today. It began nine days ago in Seattle, continued in Phoenix, then Santa Monica and finally New York. Working with Methodologie and the folks at Macerich has been wonderful! I'll show some spreads here once it gets printed.

I was chasing the sun from the back seat of a cab on my way to La Guardia today.

HERE Magazine

here_mag-01.jpg

Today, I got my hands on a copy of the Cooper Carry HERE magazine I worked on with Iconologic a few months back. It looks really great! Mohawk donated the cover stock and bought 5000 copies to include in their paper kits they send out to designers. I bought 50 of them to send out to some folks to promote my photography. This first story features three very different motivations for conserving energy.

This next story calls attention to everyday energy consumption.

Matt Rollins, the creative director at Iconologic, really enjoyed the stark images of trash I collected at Lake Lanier and decided to include them in the book.

Atlanta Tornado

tornado-01.jpg

I got a lot of phone calls yesterday from friends and family from across the country. They had seen the news and wanted to check in on my family and my home. When my wife was pregnant with Finn last year, we moved out of Cabbagetown over to Grant Park. We're less than a mile now from our old house, and although our electricity flickered on and off Friday night just after 9:30, I had no idea our old neighborhood was being hit by a tornado. This morning I walked around my old street and made some pictures.

tornado-02.jpg

Our old house lost a few shingles and the fence suffered some damage, but she stands relatively unscathed when compared to others in the neighborhood.

tornado-03.jpg

This house is directly across the street. When we were living here, this house was extensively renovated. The houses can be rebuilt, but the loss of so many stately, old trees will change the feel of the neighborhood forever.

tornado-04.jpg

This is two doors up from our old house.

tornado-05.jpg

After surveying my old street, I traveled across Boulevard to the Oakland Cemetery. These permanent residents of Atlanta haven't received much attention from the media. So many headstones are broken and more than a dozen old trees are uprooted. The view of Cabbagetown from near Potter's Field displays a patchwork of blue tarps.

tornado-06.jpg

I assume many of these headstones will never be upright again.

tornado-07.jpg

Many trees that were not uprooted lost limbs.

tornado-08.jpg

I'm pretty fond of this cemetery. It's a quiet and often overlooked spot. I've been walking or biking through it since I moved back to Atlanta nearly ten years ago. I have favorite markers that I went around checking on. This one didn't fare so well.

tornado-09.jpg

The trees and headstones that are upturned lay down to the east.

tornado-10.jpg

These two have been together a long time.

This guy is split at the trunk and splays over the retaining wall at the intersection of Boulevard and Memorial.

tornado-12.jpg

A huge tree came to rest on this small building near the Confederate markers.

tornado-13.jpg

I wasn't sure what this was when I first came upon it. I thought it was some kind of wreath wrapped around this headstone. It's a set of mini-blinds.

tornado-14.jpg

Somehow, these headstones avoided damage.

tornado-15.jpg

These guys weathered the storm well.

tornado-16.jpg

The mausoleums all seemed undamaged.

tornado-17.jpg

Little Louise and Little Hugh are my favorite markers in the cemetery. I was pleased to discover them unharmed.

Today was a beautiful Spring day! I took Finn across the street to crawl around in the park.

The Crib

Finn likes to stand in his crib now. He can't get up by himself, but he can hold on to the rail and keep himself upright.

Birthday Donut

donut1.jpg

Iliana will be 6 years old today. We had a family birthday with her dad, my parents, Melody, Finn and me at her favorite Thai restaurant. We followed that by a visit to Krispy Kreme on Ponce.

Near the end of this issue is a tiny picture I made of Corinne from Snowden back late last year. You can see more of them on my portrait section here.

ambulance1.jpg

This is the first responder to that awful bus crash on I-75 South a year ago. I photographed him behind Grady Hospital near the ambulance bays. That's the toe of my boot holding the page down....

ambulance2.jpg

I really liked this guy. He's confident, but quiet. And he has a great mustache.

lost_found1.jpg

The lake trash made it into this issue as well. I like the black and white pages with a splash of color. Thanks to Hector for picking this up and wanting to include it in the magazine! You can see more here.

This year has been so busy! After finishing the annual report for Macerich, I shot for Inc. Magazine, the Continental Airlines Magazine, The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Magazine (thru VSA Partners) and the Arthritis Foundation. Tomorrow, I fly out for a shoot in Ann Arbor, then Chapel Hill.

Saturday, we're taking a family trip to Yosemite. I'll do my best to get some great pictures up here while we're there.
