Iliana loves to hold her baby brother.

This was day 2 for the Boral Brick campaign (see Day 1: Talent on Location for first day). We shot this on Wednesday, August 1. Thanks to Cannon for the pictures!
Try and match the footwear to the crew member....

Patrick demonstrates his ability to sleep standing up.

Comfortable client = happy client.

We finished early and put a call in to Jay for equipment pickup.

All the gear....

I got one shot of Cannon before we headed out. Wrap time: 9:40 a.m.

Our third day of shooting, the second house of the shoot, occurred on Monday, August 13. Morgan and I are determining what we need to do to make this shot perfect.

Another test frame.

That's Lee, the stylist on the left. She did an amazing job styling all three of these house shoots.

Mmmmmm.... cherry danish.

I seem to be taking a closer look.

"What if we put a little shrubbery over there to hide the downspout?" That's exactly what we did.
Cannon kindly shared these pictures with the blog.

Sometimes the assistant needs the guidance of an old pro. Lucky for Morgan, I've got loads of experience filling steam irons.

This shot was the most styled of the three house shots. We propped out the deck on this million dollar home on Tuesday, August 14.

Well... Lee propped out the deck on this million dollar home

Looking at a test frame.

Ahhh.... We like what we see.
Thanks again to Cannon for the pictures!

The Atlanta Hawks have new logos and uniforms. Consequently, for the 2007-08 season, there is no game photography with players sporting the new look. I took a day from my paternity leave to shot five players on the practice court for the 07-08 campaign. The stuff looks really cool. For the ads, the guys are stripped out on white and converted to black and white.

Kaylinn takes a moment to give Cannon the devil horns.

Mike Hirsch from Blue Sky and I review some images on Cannon's laptop.

The reverse angle.... That's Joe Johnson on screen.

Here's what Kaylinn looks like when she's not giving the camera the devil horns. Thanks to Cannon for the above pictures.

Here's some of the pictures I got. Josh Smith dunking....

Marvin Williams.

Al Horford.

Little Finn turned two weeks old today. To celebrate, I wanted to make pictures! Funny though, the best one was him screaming his lungs out.

I was brought in today to shoot some players from the Atlanta Thrashers during the taping for the game opener. The game opener is the 60 second film that plays when the lights go down at the arena before the game. It gets the fans pretty hyped up. I shot a bunch of stuff on a green screen to be placed into the film. We also shot some stuff on the ice. The art direction looks really cool this year – constructionist, kind of Soviet revolution propaganda-like.
That's Drew on the ice with Kovalchuk.

And here he is on the ice with Lehtonen... giving me the devil horns.

This is NBA Hall-of-Famer Dominque Wilkins. I returned to the practice court at Philips Arena to shoot him for Atlanta Magazine. After we shot him on the court, I really wanted to bring him out by the loading docks. The available light is really great looking back down this corridor.

Media day is the day when the players arrive for training camp. They have their physicals, headshots, and yearbook photos/advertising photos - that's where I come in. All of this takes place up at the Ice Forum in Duluth. We met up there at 5:45 a.m. to begin loading in. We shot more than 50 players over the course of the day.
That's Cannon, Peter and myself. Thanks to Kipp Howe for making these production shots with my DSLR!

The best spot for us is crammed between the wall and the ice rink. It's the only area with ceilings high enough for me to drop low and shoot up at the players. We wear warm clothes. Cannon wears a hoodie. That's Ransom back there in the pink scarf. She sprays water on the players to make them look all sweaty.

Jason from Atlanta Spirit is glad to be out of the office and hanging out with the team.

Matty is, too, I think....

We shot some really tight stuff this year. I got right up in their faces with my 80mm and an extension tube. It looks a little wide, but not too distorted. I think it suits the look we're going for.

I love my new P25+ back. I just upgraded from the P25.

That's our little set....

Cannon is on set with the color checker.

Exelby.

Havelid.

Holik.

Hossa.

Kovalchuk.

Kozlov.

Lehtonen.

I think they cut this guy....

That's right, a calendar. I've been working with Atlanta Spirit for four years now. Three years ago, Peter from Atlanta Spirit told me they wanted to produce a calendar with the Hawks Dance Team girls... and he wanted me to shoot it. It began innocently enough, but this year finds it existing exclusively as a vehicle to showcase sunny skies and sandy beaches... and girls in swimsuits.
I'll save the girl shots for the calendar. Enjoy Dan and Cannon standing in and holding the color checker....

On the yacht.

On another yacht.

At the marina.

Back on the yacht... the second yacht.

Marina.

In front of the Grand Sandestin. We shot all this at the Sandestin Resort, by the way.

Poolside.

The 13th hole of one of the golf courses.

Under the boardwalk.

Captain's chair on the yacht.

The 15th floor of one of the condo/hotels.

Gate to one of the many swimming pools.

Uh... the beach.

Same beach, different guy.

Dan does a jump kick into the sand while we wait for our bikini girl to arrive.

Standing in....

Dan, color checker and bikini.

I had a shoot for Atlanta Magazine yesterday. It was pretty cool. We shot a professor at Georgia Tech who makes robots and writes software to control them. We shot 7 or 8 robots and two portraits of the good professor. Here's Dan standing in on our blue set, a little sunburned. I think the story will run next month.

Jason from Atlanta Spirit thinks I've got the look (and the build) to be the face for this year's team. Or is it the just the moustache? Either way... lookout Kovalchuk!!

Terry gave me a call late last night with some great news: the promo poster will be featured in the 'Exhibit' section of the January/February issue of Communication Arts! Time to renew that subscription....
